My friends, Jill and Mike, had a baby!
Jill has been a friend of mine for a long time and so I was honored to get to photograph her and her daughters, Piper (born on December 29) and Meadow, 8, at my home this month.
It’s so wonderful to look at the images after a newborn session like this and fall in love with them. Although newborns can be some of the most fun subjects to shoot – the smell, the tiny hands, the sweet expressions – they can also be some of the most tricky.
Just when you get baby set riiiiiiight where you want her and move back to focus and take the picture, she awakes from her slumber or stretches out a tiny arm. Just a small movement can be the difference between an in-focus and an out-of-focus capture. So, you work fast, never quite sure if that photo you grabbed before the composition fell apart, is as tack-sharp as you needed it to be. Time disappears in a flurry of prepping, shooting, re-setting, and repeating.
But then I look at these photos of adorable Piper and her beautiful mama and sister, and realized that all the flurry was worth it. The hastiness of moments inbetween falls away and all that’s left are those chubby cheeks and loving looks from mom.
Stay tuned for more photos of Piper’s doting dad, Mike.
