Over the years I have had the distinct honor of being trusted to photograph numerous births, many of which are with previous wedding clients. While Gia and Jeff are not previous wedding clients, they could have easily been as our connection upon arrival at the hospital was almost immediate.
Perhaps that’s the “match making” prowess of my dear friend and client many times over, Tom who knew us all well enough to know we’d hit it off, and most importantly that his dear friends and coworkers, Gia and Jeff would be completely comfortable with me capturing this very special and personal moment in their lives.
Because I was out of town in the three weeks leading up to the birth, I had another trusted photographer in place just in case I was not home in time. This birth and experience however seemed meant to be. Gia went into labor the night I arrived home from a three week trip on the other side of the country.
I walked into Kaiser Roseville the next day to meet Gia and Jeff for the first time on the afternoon of Texas’ birth.
Immediately stuck by their warmth, not only towards me but to each other, Jeff was there at every step, comforting, soothing, breathing, encouraging and even pushing….providing the support for Gia to both focus and laugh all along the way. He even created a “mix tape” with songs often synchronously chosen, a present day “playlist”, having the same sentiment that mix tapes had; labored over for hours and hours and a very special gift for those most important to you. And, Gia – WOW—was tough- amazingly strong and her calm, “can do” energy softly but powerfully, encompassed the entire room.
Births, like weddings, are another beginning and I am always honored to have the privilege to capture and document these life milestones in a meaningful way.
It truly is always an honor. It’s always just as amazing and it always leaves me feeling alive and present in this world. It’s a gift and I am grateful to Gia and Jeff for their trust and friendship. Welcome to the world Baby Texas! You’re one lucky boy!
