I had almost forgotten how much energy corralling two toddlers can be! That was until I met up with the Pooley family recently at Larsen’s Apple Barn.
Supa’ mom, Amy, and her extended family have been clients and friends of mine for some time and I love them all….Amy’s sister, Emily’s, wedding, Amy and Brian’s wedding, their extended family and the list goes on. This time, as luck would have it, Amy was the winner of a session I donated for auction at CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children). Prior to getting her hands full, full-time, with now two-year-old twins Austin and Alaina (as well as four-year-old Olivia), Amy worked for Casa and so this session was a nice thank you for her many years of service.
As you can see from these fun photos, this family is full of laughter, love, and boundless energy. Sitting still for that “perfect” family portrait is hard work with adults, let alone three children under the age of five, and I love how Brian and Amy just rolled with whatever the kids were doing, big smiles on their face. Following them around running, jumping, skipping, and laughing made this session much more real and gave us all a better glimpse into the character of their family right now. As soon as next year everything will be different, and in several years we’ll be able to get everyone to sit still at the same time for the family photo but, for right now, these photos are perfectly the Pooleys and that’s exactly why I love them.
Olivia asked if my daughter, Ember, could come along to keep her entertained for this session and since Ember loves little children, I agreed. She was a great help keeping everyone engaged and did a good job running out-of-frame before I clicked the shutter (most of the time.) Thanks also to Cassie, who assisted on this shoot, bringing along some toys to keep the kids going while giving Amy and Brian a bit of a well deserved break.
