  • I wasn’t going to photograph Kirby and Sam’s wedding. Kirby is the son of one of my really good friends, Mary, and I had fully intended to attend their Montana wedding as purely a guest. Our mutual friend, Nate, was on-point as the photographer for the day and so I knew they were in good hands. But then I arrived and I saw the mountains, the green grass, and breathed in the lovely, clean air and I couldn’t let the idea go that I had to photograph this wedding, at least in part.  Nate had everything covered but I wanted to…

  • You may have heard me mention the name Ashlynn in countless posts past but this is the first time you’ll have ever seen her in front of the camera, well, not including her senior photographs that I captured several years back. Ashlynn is my assistant and just one of the sweetest girls I know. This past summer, Ashlynn’s boyfriend, Sam, left for college while Ashlynn stayed behind here in California. Long distance relationships are hard at the best of times but, if you can remember the raw intensity of your first love, you can probably get some measure of how…

  • My friends, Jill and Mike, had a baby! Jill has been a friend of mine for a long time and so I was honored to get to photograph her and her daughters, Piper (born on December 29) and Meadow, 8, at my home this month. • The Jamali family have been friends and clients of mine now for almost a decade. Just about every year I have known them, we have worked together for an annual family shoot. I also got the honor of photographing their son, Kian’s, birth. So, you could say I know a thing or two about Kian and his family. Like most boys, Kian is a pot of boiling energy, just itching for a release and so he always challenges me to get the best out of him at every shoot. Giving him an outlet for all that energy seems to be…

  • Photographing another photographer is nerve-racking. Especially when that photographer is one who is incredibly successful and whose work you greatly admire. When that person is also a good friend, there is added pressure to not only produce technically beautiful photos but also to capture something a little deeper – the emotional spirit of the day. So, when Chip, who is an accomplished architectural and fine-art photographer (plus friend of ten years), asked me to photograph his Monterey wedding to Shannon, I was not only very honored but, I’ll admit, a little daunted.  That said, I’ve been photographing weddings for more…
