I love engagement sessions and am happy to be moving back into the season for them. As a photographer- not only do I get to know the couple I will work with better as we earn a trust between each other- but it is also “no pressure shooting”…it’s a creative flow that you trust and follow without any wedding day pressure or schedules. Weddings have a certain flow to them, an almost routine-like schedule that has to be followed in order to make sure all the bases are covered. Engagement sessions on the other hand are a whole different story.…

Taking advantage of this yo yo-ing weather, I headed out to Boeger Winery with my friend Summer and her family. I think it may have even snowed the day before and perhaps even the day after. But this was a beautiful fall day(other than the growth cycle at Boeger was clearly in winter mode). Randi and Austin are a fun couple to work with. I am grateful to our mutual friend Melinda for introducing us. Naturals in front of the camera with big bright smiles and personalities, they were even brave enough to hop up on the ledge of the bridge for me! They first met 6 years ago and are now looking forward to getting married this spring at the Firehouse Restaurant in Sacramento. John claimed he doesn’t smile very often, but with the amount he was smiling during this session, I have a bit of trouble believing him. Shortly after graduation this year John’s heading off to boot camp to start his career with the Marines. As a Track and Field enthusiast I’m sure he’ll have no trouble at all doing all of those long-distance runs and push-ups that boot camp is famous for. I remember the call I got from Negar, a prospective client about 7 years ago. They had recently moved to the area and were looking for a photographer to capture their family memories. I remember I was cruising the back country roads on a gorgeous spring day between Chapel Hill, NC and Chatham, VA on my way to a shoot. Ahhh, lil’ Miss Allison brought along her awesome butterfly guitar to use for the shoot, and she even played us a few chords for us. The fall colors of the vineyard looked beautiful with the yellow dress that her mother brought along for her. Love a little girl, full of life, personality and music! I met Amy and Ryan as they were on their way back from a weekend trip to Tahoe. They had just dropped the kids off for pizza, and managed to get away for a bit to celebrate just the two of them. Neither one had a problem being in front of the camera. I loved how playful they were, giving piggy-back rides, jumping, and making faces at each other. Jessica flew in from Colorado to celebrate her mother’s 60th birthday with her sister. Everyone thought it was an excellent time for a family session with mom and her two girls. It was a misty and rainy day but we managed to find a break in the weather. I imagine all of them are still cleaning mud off their heels!
