I had a chance to support the Sugarloaf Fine Arts Camp this year by setting up a photo booth for their 8th annual fundraiser at Smith Flat House in Placerville last weekend. This year also marked the 50th anniversary of Sugarloaf. Sugarloaf is a summer fine arts camp in Pollock Pines that provides classes for 6th grade through high school students in Concert Bands, Visual Arts, Theater Arts, Creative Arts, Photography, and Jazz Bands to name a few. The fundraiser helped to provide scholarships for students who might not otherwise be able to attend. Attendees to the fundraiser had the chance to participate themselves in a few creative classes including: salsa dancing, crafts, improv, and even a flower arranging class taught by my friend Dottie from Camino Flower Shop who introduced me to Sugarloaf. I’ve been curious about this camp ever since I moved to the area back in 2000, and it seems that all of my most creative friends and colleagues are involved with it in one way or another. Only a few more years and Jaz and Ember can join in the fun! The fabulous Andrew Heringer Band closed the night in the round, campfire style. Be sure to check out their CD release party on September 4. These are some of the photos from the classes and from the photo booth I set up. Hope you enjoy, and we’d love to see you there next year! Thanks Paul, Erin and Nina and all those volunteers who not only made the event a great success but also a whole lot of fun! More Sugarloaf photos here!
