Ah yes Sierra at Tahoe…Days like this, you sit back, take a deep breath of fresh air and exclaim, “I love my job”! I can usually do these Sierra shoots without an assistant, mostly because the blanket of snow is an amazingly efficient photographic reflector. This time however, my husband Jeff joined us to help carry my gear- my own personal(and cute) sherpa! (I think even HE loved my job that day :)) Late February I injured my shoulder in a ski accident and have been rehabilitating it ever since. I thought it was smart not to totally push it (…as if skiing the trees in crunchy snow with a 70-200 on isn’t pushing it)
Peter is super cool, easy going and friendly. Funny story…when I first spoke with his mom and to make an appointment for senior photographs she promptly put Peter on the phone so we could talk logistics. He (very pleasantly), kinda blew me off when I asked him where he wanted to do his shoot,” Oh whatever my mom wants is fine, I dunno, I’m fine with whatever”. Typical, (senior) guy response. I asked him what he liked to do when he was not in school hoping I could get an indication of a place that would “speak” to him. He of course said, “snowboard”. I said, “want to do it at Sierra at Tahoe?”. He exclaimed, “YEAH” and the rest is history…HE was now excited about the shoot and we were both looking forward to it….. don’t you just love that?
We had a great time cruising around the mountain. He likes to ski the trees(my sherpa too) and was a good sport given that the conditions were very tough for tree skiing that day- but we pulled off some woods shooting..(even if I almost crashed a couple times) and some posey stuff for mom. Thank goodness for a beautiful day, a cool senior and my sweet mountain sherpa!
Congrats on your upcoming graduation Peter!
