• Ahhh… the miracle of a birth. I always feel so incredibly honored to be a part of welcoming a child into the world and into a family.  There is so much unknown around the event – when exactly it will happen and how it will go – that when that tiny little ball of pink flesh arrives, it feels at once almost impossible and yet entirely natural. And so I found myself driving down the hill to Roseville after dad, Elmo, called me to let me know that his wife, Rebecca, had been admitted into Kaiser Roseville’s labor and delivery…

  •   Michele and Michael’s nuptuals took place in a beautiful private residence in Somerset, CA. The home belongs to Rick and Janice Wickham, who were Michele’s parents growing up through kinship care. They occasionally host weddings on the grounds for friends and family and I had actually shot a wedding there several years before for Miranda and Brian, which is how Michele and Michael came to know me. So many lovely touches to this wedding too. Michael’s father created a wooden “Happily Ever After” sign that hung near the ceremony site. The couple also participated in a tree-planting ceremony, blending…

  • Derek is a good friend of a good friend of mine, Ross, and he got in touch with me recently to capture some head shots. Although this hasn’t been something I have done a lot of in the past, I love to see how my style translates to new session types and so jumped at the chance. Fortunately, in addition to being a programmer, Derek is also a photographer, which meant he knew exactly what he wanted to capture and where, scouting out Folsom Lake College as the location for our session. It was a great choice and I loved…

  •   As children get older, develop their own lives, friends, and activities, it gets harder and harder to get everyone in a family together as one unit. When this rare occurrence happens, it’s something to be celebrated. Which is why, when mom, Cindy, found herself with all three daughters at home at one time, she decided to move into action and schedule a photo session. Cindy then found me through Derik and Heidi of Riptide Entertainment, who also happen to be past wedding clients of mine. We met down at beautiful Sly Park Lake in the bright sunshine to capture…

  •   After capturing baby Nyron at birth and again shortly after he arrived home, it was wonderful to catch-up with him and his wonderful mom and dad, Kailey and Matt, in Coloma recently. Nyron is such a happy, smiley baby and his parents adore him but kids don’t always perform on-cue, do they? It was a warm afternoon down by the river in Coloma and baby Nyron was not impressed by the heat or the sun. Smiles quickly turned to grimaces, joy to irritation. Mom, dad and I worked our bag of magic tricks, trying to make the vision of…

  • “Know that you are loved. Encode this in your head and heart. You are worthy.” Suzanne Walker Buck, Rector, Chatham Hall Enjoy the slideshow. And remember, it is a show that requires Adobe Flash, so put down your iPhone or iPad and watch it on your main computer or one that supports Adobe Flash. Slideshow link: http://www.lisarichmondphotography.com/SHOWITSHOWS-/2015_ChathamHall This was my 31st year photographing graduation ceremonies for my alma mater, Chatham Hall in Virginia. Every year it’s an emotional event for me and each year I take away something different from my experiences; listening to the student and faculty speakers and…

  • Getting to photograph the continuing stories of my past wedding clients is one of my most favorite things to do. I love the connections maintained with my wedding couples and the candidness that a little history can bring to my work for a client. A wedding, though just one day, is often a multi year process from an engagement session to wedding booking and planning to the actual wedding to their wedding album completion.  Stephanie and Bill’s particular story began with an engagement session at Sly Park Lake in 2011 and then a 2012 wedding at Stephanie’s family home in Placerville. Several years later and…

  • May in Tahoe and the weather forecast was uncertain. Snow had just fallen on the mountain peaks and the wind was, shall we say, brisk. On Friday, gray clouds crested over the hill and the outlook on my assistant’s weather app was for rain right at the moment we were due to be standing in the middle of Squaw Valley’s famous meadow with our bride and groom. We checked our umbrella inventory and made contingency plans.

  • I have known Jacqueline and her family now for some time. Along with her two older sisters, Samantha and Kalene, Jacqueline has baby-sat my daughters over the years. In the early days, when my girls were toddlers and we would go on family camping trips, the even short moments of respite they provided my husband, Jeff, and I were MUCH appreciated. And now it’s Jacqueline’s turn to fly the coop, heading off to Philadelphia to study the science behind textiles. Such an interesting and different major. Jacqueline tells me that many graduates go on to work as consultants for companies like…

  • Alright- it seems I am on a roll these days with cute babies. Or maybe it is just those bright eyed, “the world is my oyster” smiles that captivate my heart and imagination? Whatever it is…keep it coming. I’m having a great time! It has been a few years now capturing the Moreland crew. It’s one of the favorite parts of being a photographer; getting to experience and record these incredible life changing moments and often, if I’m lucky, year after year too. I know them, we’ve worked together many times, We have already built a rapport; at a session, I’m familiar with their…

  • Jake graduates from El Dorado High this spring so it was the perfect time to get out to the lake and capture some photographs of him. As an avid wake boarder, the lake was a natural choice for him. I always joke with my senior male clients that the images we take are “not for you” but for “your mom”, so just be yourself so that she loves them. This tends to take off the pressure off this photo shoot being “all about them” and guys are able to relax into it more easily. Jake is a super sweet guy…
