My extended family has a beautiful farm up on the Umpqua River in Oregon. We don’t get up there as much as we’d like mostly due to the amount of travel time it takes to get there and back. I wish it was about 4 hours away instead of 8-10 hours- we’d go up all the time! My uncles Tommy and Chris and their wives Cherry and Michelle live on the farm and take care of it on a day to day basis. In order to get to it you have to cross the Umpqua River (best not to arrive at low tide ha, ha) which is part of the charm- once you are there you feel away from it all. The other part of the charm is that my grandmother Alys(my father’s mother) has a strong presence there even though she passed away in the early 90’s. Alys was an amazing woman with a huge magnetic attraction-everyone loved her! This slideshow is from a recent family gathering in September. We spent a lot of time learning about our family history looking at old photos and learning more about our Tututni heritage through spoken word. I spent a lot of time shooting because I thought it would be cool to have the images and a slideshow to look back on which could give a current historic flavor so that 100 years from now, our children’s, children’s children could look at all my old photos and, of course, try to guess who was who and get a feel for the farm in this era. Enjoy the slideshow and if you want to see the images individually, click on the gallery link just below the right side of the slideshow.

LISA! I feel so HONORED to have spent time in that beautiful place! Did you smoke any salmon this trip!?!?! Your grandmother CONTINUES to be an enormous inspiration to me. I have my Peace Corps application 85% filled out, just keeping it ready for when I’m grown up enough to finally go – like she did! what a beautiful journey you just took me on with this trip, so lovely to see everyone in such good form, enjoying life. And Azure and Jaz look EXACTLY like their beautiful MOTHERS! uncanny! LOVE LOVE LOVE to you all! xox
Hey Lisa,
What a beautiful slideshow of the family. We are so fortunate to have you recording people and events like this. We showed it to my family in NY, they loved it. What fun to read comments from folks who had been at the farm so long ago!
Thanks again. I really appreciate your talent and seeing us altogether. Can’t wait for Canada!
Thanks!!! This is a wonderful gift, I really appreciate your thought. The family has been watching the slide slow and we have been enjoying it over and over again. It is truly beautiful. Have a happy new year, and wish the family my best:)
Much love,
Azure
Dear Lisa and all–Wow great photos–a good photography lesson for me. That’s a lot of work to get that all together, sure do appreciate it!! Hope you all can make plans to come up at least once a year and stay longer. Cherry and I wish you all a very Happy and productive New Year. With Love, Uncle Tommy
You did a great job with this show. Many great shots of the ranch and the people. You have made your grandmother, Alys, very proud!! Dad
Sign us up for river side view for 4….
We’d prefer a table that comes with crayons and
coloring books if possible…
We all noticed the Power Wagon Bar may be closed for renovations. All there is now, is a cup that says, “Will drink beer for food.” We are anticipating that the Power Wagon Bar will re-open soon with its new, long-awaited, party-deck. We remain patient.
Thanks you all! And yes Leah, don’t you recognize Chris and Tommy and Jaz and Ember???
Awesome…! do we know these people?
Awesome Lisa! You did a great job of capturing it. Beautiful. I love it there too. So full of magick. It’s the first place I ever saw “stick bugs.” All the kids are completely adorable (the grown up ones too). 🙂
Lisa, these photos are amazing (as always;). I love them all but especially the b&w one of you leaning against the rock. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!
