When you attend a memorial for a “child”, as a parent, I know, you know, we all know, this could be you. How can this thought not run through your head? This just as easily could have been one of your own. Fear then sadness then compassion. As I sit here putting this slideshow together, tears running down my cheek, I am just as moved by these raw emotions each time it plays.
Being a part of the community of Pollock Pines, I arrived at the memorial for Travis certain of the strong love and support of our community that would be there to hold up the Byers Family in this most challenging time. What I found however was that despite this situation that Jim, Carol and Megan found themselves in, they were the ones holding us all up. The Byers Family lifted (all 900) of us with their strength, grace and reflection. I am still touched by their spirit for life, the good and the bad, that is helping them, and all of us, through this. Rest in Paradise Travis….you are clearly loved by so so many…
I hadn’t intended to build a slideshow but as I was editing the images, one of my favorite Son Volt tunes came on and it just seemed to fit. I liked the mood and the message and only hope that the love and support the images document will continue to help Carol, Jim and Megan move towards their own healing.
