I’ve known Tom and Bethany since 2008 when we got together to do their pre wedding engagement session. We’ve been friends since and I was so happy to receive the call once Bethany’s pregnancy was official, that they wanted me to join them for the birth.
Baby Graydon wasn’t expected to arrive until the end of August and as I tell my clients, I cannot schedule births in just the way they can’t schedule births. If I can be there I will be there. And it’s always such a joy to get the call that it is happening and that I can make it!
Baby Graydon arrived about 12 hours after my father passed away after an 8 month battle with pancreatic cancer. We all knew he was dying but what we didn’t know was that Baby Graydon was going to arrive 2 weeks early. I woke up at 5am with a call from Tom letting me know Baby Graydon was coming. Of course I knew it was possible so I was prepared but just the same absolutely emotionally exhausted.
I knew I had to be there and I knew my father would have pushed me out the door to be there. I knew that if I told Tom and Bethany about what had just happened it would have not only affected their joy but they would have insisted that I not feel I need to be there.
This is the way I felt: The very same angels that took my father away brought Baby Graydon into the world. His arrival was a gift to me to remind me about the Circle of Life. Births and deaths, arrivals and departures- we are all signed up for these experiences in this world. Make the most of every day- it’s your life so live it in happiness, gratitude and discovery.
Tom and Bethany, Graydon is so lucky to have you all to care for him. So lucky. You all are fabulous!
