Karin and Amy were referred to me by my good friends, Dorit and Mark (friends of the bride and bride and also bartenders at this event – check them out in their German costumes in this post!) Referrals are the mainstay of my business and I love the folks I get to work with when I get them. When Karin and Amy told me their wedding would be held in Coloma by the river, I just knew we would be the perfect match. And this was definitely one of those weddings with many memorable details.
Their ceremony was in the round, with aisles angles at cardinal directions, just like a compass. Karin and Amy joined the ceremony from opposite directions (east and west). I loved the symbolism of this: although coming together from different directions, different lives, they join in the center and together are “home”. While taking vows, they tied a Celtic Heart Knot, and then they were wrapped in a quilt they made from fabric sent by the guests – meaning they were literally wrapped in the love and support of the people around them. How wonderful!
When the I do’s were done, I followed Karin and Amy up the river with their officiant for an intimate signing ceremony, and an opportunity to capture some quiet moments together. It’s so fantastic when couples make time for this before joining the party; time to relax from pre-ceremony nerves and bask in the joy of finally being married. That sense of relief and joy is fun to capture and makes for wonderful photos.
And who can beat a reception with fire dancers?
After all the excitement, Karin and Amy headed off to Iceland for their honeymoon. I hear it’s absolutely beautiful there and that they had an amazing time. What a wonderful start to their life together.
Thank you to Ashlynn Gist for assisting on this one.
