As many of you know, each year I fly back to Virgina to photograph the graduation events of my alma mater. This year I got an extra treat, and was able to go back twice. Once for the graduation and then again just two weeks later to photograph Hunter and Schay’s wedding held right there on campus. Having gone to school there myself and returning each year for the past 28 years and photographing Schay in 2006 for her graduation, it truly was special to be able to capture Hunter and Schay in the backdrop of a campus I know so well. Schay, Hunter and their families were so easy to work with, and the whole event felt more like a warm family reunion(and dance party!) than a formal event.
The weekends events started on Friday with the rehearsal dinner at The Homeplace Vineyard. From the toasts to the dancing, throughout the night I had to keep reminding myself that I was in fact shooting the rehearsal dinner and not the wedding yet.
The wedding day started with a luncheon on the front lawn of the school. The boys then went off to play Frisbee while the girls took over the library to get ready. I have to give a huge “Thank You!” to La and the Fountains for letting us borrow their golf carts – I don’t know how we would have done it all without them! The Ceremony was held in the chapel on campus, followed by the reception in VanVoorhis Hall(Dutch). The A la carte dinner which kept guests connected and mingling was unbelievably fantastic- so beautiful, so tasty. The service was impeccable!
I have to admit, as a former member of the music industry, I’m not normally a huge fan of cover bands. However, both bands for the rehearsal and the reception were fantastic. They had a big fat mix of music, a willing and eager crowd, and knew exactly what to do to keep everyone on the dance floor all night.
