Graydon has the biggest, chubbiest, happiest smile and he instantly puts you in a good mood. I had so much fun capturing him and his parents at Larsen’s Apple Barn recently.
Graydon and his family are no strangers to me and my lens, however. I have photographed Graydon three times before, beginning with his birth, then again as a newborn, and once more just 4 months ago as an infant. What many of my clients may not know is that, if I photograph your wedding and if I am available, I will also photograph your first child’s birth as a special thank you. I love it when it when it works out that I can be at the birth because it’s a beautiful thing to have seen a couple marry and then have the privilege of watching their first child come into the world.
As a photographer of such special moments, it is impossible to be emotionally “removed” from your clients even though you are doing your job and seemingly hiding behind a lens. Yes, we’re looking at light and fiddling with buttons on our camera but we’re also watching for the touch of a hand, a loving look, a stolen kiss… the tender, intimate moments that connect us. Being party to and capturing those moments means that many of my clients also become friends. Tom and Beth certainly fall into that category and after photographing their wedding, and celebrating their second anniversary with them, it’s a real joy to watch their family grow.
In just the four months it’s been since I last saw him, Graydon is sitting up, munching on his delectable little toes, and learning to crawl using his ladybug toy, “Lady”, as incentive. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this fantastic family.
