When you spend 8 years photographing a family – from engagement to wedding, followed by the birth of their children and all the milestones in between – it is intensely bittersweet to photograph them one last time, in their homecourt playground in the Sierra Nevadas before they move on to new life adventures. But, adventurous friends, adventure. It’s as simple as that.
Tiffany and Keith are wonderful friends to me, and working with them and their beautiful children Finn and Freya and all of their like minded friends, all along the way, has been an absolute joy! Saying goodbye to them as they make the move to Hailey, Idaho(an August 21 eclipse hotspot) is hard…but also pretty exciting, because I know this family is in for the time of their lives. Like me, they live for outdoor activities and open spaces, and they welcome the promise that a new beginning brings. I welcome it for them. Though they will be a few states away, they will never be far from my heart. Our goodbyes are really just a big “see ya later” for the reunion that we know will inevitably happen. Did someone say “road trip??” Did someone say Idaho family session? Hell ya!
I wanted to share some photos from the very beginning – Tiffany, Keith, and their pup Pinto at their engagement session. It was fall of 2009 and a golden evening in the foothills that I surely won’t forget! This excerpt from the piece I wrote on meeting them for the first time about their wedding is still on my website, and captures the essence of why I adore this couple:
“The sight of a Tacoma extended cab, packed to the gills with mountain bikes and kayaks, lights a fire to my imagination. Their truck in my driveway, Tiffany and Keith brought me the promise of adventure, fresh scenery, and an attitude I love. Tiffany’s bridal shop had suggested she get rid of her sports bra tan lines, and when she assured me that would never happen, we both laughed.
It sure was an adventure, and clearly the beginning of many more for them.”
I mean – how can you NOT love that? 🙂
Since then, this incredible family has referred me to their friends and extended family, several of whose weddings I have also shot. Working with a couple that values my work so much is an incredible gift! I am so lucky to have the Wohlwends in my life.
Congratulations Tiffany, Keith, Finn, and Freya on your new adventure! I can’t wait until our paths cross again in the “Eastern Sierras.” Love you guys!
Bon Voyage,
Lisa
