“What a difference a day makes…twenty-four little hours”
And it’s true. The first image was Friday night as the sun was going down, the night before Eveyln and Derrick’s wedding in Pollock Pines. The second image was at 3pm the next day when the full-on rain storm had crossed over to snow.
Just. like. that.
It’s good to have a “home court advantage”, living only 10 minutes away I offered to get out to capture some images of the two of them after my last session on Friday night, in their wedding attire, and then returned the next day for whatever the weather would bring. Evelyn had let me know in advance that she wasn’t a big fan of precipitation so I wanted to give her a chance to shine for a few in the late afternoon light, in her beautiful dress. Plus, another advantage, I also had the right tires on my car required to depart, the next day in the snowstorm:)
Eveyln and Derrick had an advantage too. Not only was their wedding planned on a beautiful property owned by Derrick’s parents with p-l-e-n-t-y of set-up time built in, but they knew to plan for it and did. No one was going to rain on their parade. This included multiple tents, blankets, umbrellas, heaters, hand warmers, and the like. They thought of everything. It was as if that was their plan from the beginning, not the sunny, spring wedding day in the meadow by the creek we originally spoke about. Having been married in a rainstorm, I know how much work it is to shift like that but they made it happen and their joy and excitement lit up the tents.
I knew the weather was going to slow things down a bit so I asked my local friend and colleague, Erin Miller to come on out and shoot for a few hours with me and I was glad I did. We work together a lot and she knows what is needed and executes it beautifully. Corkie Matson gathered everyone together for a beautiful and grounded ceremony, like she always does. Her calmness and warmth is always a treat! My good friend Dottie, (Couture Weddings by Dottie), designed Evelyn’s gorgeous bouquet.
Whenever my good friends talk about our wedding, it was the weather (and the bands) that they remember, as it brought everyone together under one roof. I think everyone felt lucky to be a part of this unique and snowy day celebrating Derrick and Eveyln who were choosing, in front of family and friends, to share the rest of their lives together. It really felt like that in the tent. Good vibes all around.
When I moved to Pollock Pines, 23 years ago, we had a streak of spring weather in February and I promptly started planting flowers and veggies. That was the last time I ever did that. It HAS to snow on the dogwoods before you start planting, because it always does, like clockwork. Congratulations Derrick and Eveyln- I loved being a witness to your vows and to your love and connection. Thank you for including me.
