It’s hard to imagine being anywhere else that first weekend in June. This year marked my 28th Chatham Hall graduation: actually 29, if you include my own graduation back in 1984. I truly enjoy heading across country year after year and documenting this beautiful event in the rolling green hills of Chatham, Virginia. Over the years I have also been allowed the honor of photographing many of the faculty and staff as they have been celebrated for their contributions to this school.
This year I photographed Dr. Black, my English teacher from junior year, for his retirement and 30 years at Chatham Hall. In case you were not aware, Dr. Black has been documenting Chatham Hall’s rich history and assembling a fine collection of historical artifacts in Hensleigh on campus. As I photographed Dr. Black surrounded by all of the history he has worked to research and gather, I realized for the first time that after 28 years of documenting graduations, my images too will become part of the schools history. In all these years, this was the first time I thought about my work at the school in this way. How cool is that?… to be a part of that history and bringing that history to life for others that follow.
Our photographs are our memories of our history … and it is with great pleasure that I present this little piece of history, circa 2012.
Congratulations to the Class of 2012, health and relaxation to Dr. Black on his retirement and a fond farewell to the Kahuda family; all of whose absence will be felt by the school community.
Thank you, Lisa

Absolutely gorgeous. A truly heartfelt presentation as can only be created by one who has experienced the graduation traditions as a student. You captured the spectrum of emotions splendidly. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.

Gets better and better!
I am absolutely weeping over how incredibly beautiful this presentation is. I thought that I would never see anything better than the 2010 presentation you sent out for my daughter’s class of 2010. You are an amazing artist. Intuitive, emotional, effecting, technically brilliant. Thank you for all that you do for Chatham Hall.
The photos are gorgeous – makes me feel like I was there!
Nice!!
