  • This session was the best: an old Beetle, paddle-boarding, a glass-like lake, a stunning sunset sky, and a handsome Senior, Sawyer. This photographer’s dream! I have known Sawyer’s family for many years and have been photographing them for just as long. It all started with a lifestyle, anniversary session at their lovely home in Camino, and most recently I photographed their son, Colby, before he left for college (Colby’s session from 2011.) They are some of the kindest and most generous people I know; playful in spirit, sensitive and warm. This year it was Sawyer’s turn in front of the…

  • As the preferred photographer for Wedgewood event centers, I get to photograph brides and grooms at the Sequoia Wedding and Banquet Center quite a lot and I love it. The old-world charm of the white, Victorian home is the perfect backdrop for a ceremony and bridal portraits. But for Christine and Gary, they really wanted a more “garden like” feel for their nuptuals, and so they took advantage of the Wedgewood’s partnership with the gorgeous Seasons Bed & Breakfast (just around the corner) to exchange their vows and then made the short drive to Sequoia for their reception. It’s the perfect combination: colorful…

  • “Ishi” – is 91. Our society is weird, isn’t it? We celebrate our young children’s birthdays and milestones with such gusto but then, somewhere in our 20s, the enthusiasm sort of dies out and birthdays become (for most of us) pretty ho-hum affairs. This is reflected back at us through the photography world too: lots of weddings, babies, families with young children, and high school seniors. As mothers and fathers we are revered when we have young children, meanwhile older parents and grandparents… where are they in our photographic record? In the trillions of images shared on Instagram, blogs, and…

  • This was one of those weddings that left nobody with a dry eye, thanks in no small part to Jen and Dave’s long-time friends, Matt and Steve, who led the ceremony with uncommon warmth and compassion. Their speeches had me glued to front of the aisle both emotionally and to capture the myriad of emotions. But they were just the icing on the cake of an intimate, personal, and yet carefree day, where Jen and Dave were surrounded by so many friends and family who were clearly rooting for them, heart first. The American River Resort was the venue – a new…

  • Sigh… another scrumptious newborn. Lucky me! You may remember mom, the gorgeous Danielle from our maternity shoot not so long ago. Well now welcome Aubree, who joined us shortly thereafter. I got to meet her at just eight days old for a newborn session that is part of the baby package her parents purchased. As with all newborn sessions, you have to go in with a calm disposition and lots of patience because babies run the show: Aubree was no exception. Diapers, feedings, rocking, crying, sleeping…. it’s a constant dance to capture whatever you can between the split-second emotions and…

  • Gorgeous little Devan was just eight days old when I photographed him recently, still with his umbilical cord in his belly button and flaky newborn skin on his feet. His chubby cheeks made me want to smooch him for the entire session! Kim and Sean, his adoring parents, purchased my baby package after previously working with me to capture their engagement and wedding last year. In fact, if you follow my blog regularly, you may recall their fantastically fun engagement session paddle boarding on Donner Lake. These two love the outdoors and always seem to be busy, now, especially, with Devan in…

  • A stunning, private camp in the high Sierras and an amazingly warm and welcoming family – what a dream session! The Veerkamp family and I have been colliding since 2009, when I photographed Gretchen and Matt’s wedding. Since then, the happy couple have been in the wedding party for a few of the weddings I have photographed, and then I ran into Lori and Doug (Matt’s parents) at another wedding last year. Finally, when I saw Lori and her mom at the movies recently, she decided it was fated and scheduled an extended family session at their property up-country. This…

  • Gorgeous light! Gorgeous Danielle! What a wonderful way to celebrate the starting of another generation. Maternity sessions are often some of my favorite sessions for so many reasons. Danielle and William were expecting their first child when I took these photographs several weeks ago at Fausel Ranch, but I’ve been so busy lately that baby Aubree was already born and photographed before I got to get this session out to you all. My friend Deanna (owner of Fausel Ranch, William’s mom and Aubree’s proud grandma) was around the ranch that day. She is also a creative soul who loves photography.…

  •     Hello Friends, August 10, 2013 marked the one year anniversary of my father’s passing. I’ve been warned that “the milestones are the toughest,” and ain’t that the truth. Just a week ago, our family and friends set sail from San Diego Bay aboard “Adventuress”, a 60 foot catamaran, to celebrate my dad’s life.  This post was created to share with our many family and friends who also miss my father – some of whom were there but many more were unable to join us. Please feel free to leave any comments, words or stories below as it is in…
