  • Earlier this year I was introduced to girleffect.org by an old college friend of mine on Facebook. This was about at the same time that I was deciding which charity my business was going to “give back to” this year. I was immediately captivated by not only the cause and how much sense this approach to action made to me, but also by the creativity of the ad designers – very powerful – check it out – see for yourself. While thinking about it I imagined my two daughters, each with so many ideas and aspirations.  The thought that in…

  • This summer Jeff and I asked the Andrew Heringer Band to play an end of summer party at our home (see here). These guys are as talented as they are fun to hang out with, so when Andrew called and asked if I would shoot their new promo shots, I was excited. Music has always been a part of my life. I was a band manager in college (while studying for a BS in photography) for an eclectic, popular and up and coming band, Dogtalk. My photo professor kept encouraging me to find things to photograph other than bands, instruments…

Little did I know that I was about to walk into what is one of the coolest(yeah.) Pinewood traditions ~ the summer send off by the teachers! Basically, the buses drive around the circle several times honking and honking their horns, while the kids wave out the window to their teachers who are cheering, and the parents who are weeping, both about another year gone by. The…

  • So, 25 years ago I graduated from a small boarding school in southern Virginia. Never really thought that I would be back…. I mean ever! At the time, I felt a bit overwhelmed by rules and structure basically wanting neither of the two. In the 80’s, a Grateful Dead concert was more the environment I desired! In 1985(after a year of college, a few less rules and plenty of Dead shows), I approached the headmaster at the time, Jerry Van Voorhis, with my idea to provide graduation photography for the students, families and school community. This is a multi day…
