When the Shull family arrived at Sly Park Lake, Kerri and Chris looked incredibly familiar. Then, I realized I knew them due to their -flash mob- fame. I admit it. I don’t like writing. I could photograph and edit all day long, unfolding the story of a moment in time with my camera. When it comes to writing as expression, I generally feel inadequate. Getting to tell the story of families and their connections, in photographs, is my passion. When I get to the words, focus quickly fades, distractions enter, wandering thoughts prevail. “That sounds disingenuous”, “don’t settle for that word”, and “come on, you can do better than that”. It has been a few years since I photographed the Gimpel family and was excited they were ready for another session. After giving them a few ideas of locations, they said that “upcountry” suited them–so off we went. Chasing light on the aspens and spending time on a nearby mountain top,  overlooking the setting sun in the southwestern sky is a great way to spend the afternoon in my book. A beautiful fall day, a very glowing and pregnant mama a wonderfully supportive husband and dad extraordinaire and a “fall in the dirt and smile” kind of toddler. Well, since Miss Lily arrived about 6 weeks earlier than planned our Lake Tahoe maternity session ended up being inside Marshall hospital on the maternity level, during the birth. Well, not really…but sort of. I’ve been through alot with this family through the years, so we are able to sigh and then giggle to each other about this. Upon arriving in Tahoe for Lily’s 3.5 month session, we had planned to walk out to the beach and a dock but Tahoe had just had a random hail storm and the field we had to cross to get there just wasn’t…

One of my most favorite things to do is reconnect with my wedding couples in order to capture their growing families. After Katrina and Joe’s wedding(maybe 6 years ago?), I actually had the honor to be at little Casey’s birth. Well, with the Sac traffic, about 2 minutes after it, to be exact. But just the same, the images from that day and those that I captured during her first year were put together in a bound hard book documenting those precious moments.
