Apple Hill

Some families just have it. Sure it often takes a little to get warmed up to a camera in front of you and I get that. Though, some families are able to just settle into their own unique vibe rather easily. That was my experience with the McDaniel family. Love, warmth, joy, playful… silly. As a human, so much fun to be around. As a photographer, so much fun to capture. It was about a week before Christmas and I had just purchased a brand-spanking-new Nikon camera and had a big family session planned for the weekend. I wanted to test my new baby in a portrait setting so late one night I reached out to a couple friends to see if they were free the next afternoon and the lovely Miss Macy was. We squeezed her images in after school and before dance in about 30-45 minutes – such is the life of a busy middle schooler! The best part? Macy got to surprise her mom and dad with a couple 8×10’s…

The Gray Family. There are many kind people in this town that I have called home for over 17 years, and the Gray family definitely comes in at the top of that list. Melinda is a dear (forever) friend and her heart explodes with endless energy and compassion for others. She’s always there for you, and for anyone, really. I’m not sure how she squeezes in all the life she does, into her own, but she does. She’s an amazingly beautiful friend, inside, outside and all around. I had a chance to meet the Kenoyer Family on a most glorious and sunny day in Apple Hill. Mary and Jason set the kids free in Larsen’s Apple Barn Park and off they went; running, playing and goofing around like kids do, sometimes with shoes and sometimes without. Fall in love with Paisley. I did. Was it those luscious red locks? Those vibrant hazel eyes? Those cute dimples framing that meandering tongue? Was it the way that little cuteness warmed up to me so quickly? I don’t know but there was something about adorable Paisley, celebrating her first birthday in Apple Hill, in that lovely autumn light that just made my day. I’m still smiling. Paisley’s adoring parents were so connected, so enamored (and do you blame them?). Capturing that kind of love and connection is why I have a passion for the work I get to do.…

Well, actually 3 and a 1/2.  But who’s counting?  I’ll photograph this lively little girl with the 100 watt smile at any age! Audrey is the sweet daughter of Erin and Brett, whose wedding I photographed in 2012. Following families through the most important milestones of their lives is the number one reason I love being a photographer (that, and creating beautiful art with amazing people!).  In fact, I have had the good fortune of documenting Erin’s extended family for several years, having photographed sister Courtney’s wedding in 2011, and now looking forward to photographing her other sister Kristen’s wedding this fall.  It’s always a pleasure…
