Baby Mark’s parents were referred to me by some wonderful clients/friends of mine, the Haffners, and Mark Alexander is their first child. I got to shoot this new family at home in Grizzly Flats recently.
It’s so wonderful to photograph a new baby at home. Those womb-like newborn shots are just adorable (and I enjoy capturing those too) but there is something so incredibly special and intimate about being invited into someone’s home to document their first, authentic moments as a newly-expanded family.
At four weeks, Mark is past the curly-q, newborn stage but that didn’t mean that we weren’t able to capture some peaceful shots of him and his chubby cheeks, in deep sleep. His grandmother, also happened to be out visiting and, despite not being a fan of having her photo taken, couldn’t resist the opportunity to have some wonderful memories captured with her and her new grandson.
Watching Mark’s parents gaze adoringly at him brought back memories of bringing my daughters home and what a precious time that was for our family: cocooned away from the world and learning what it meant to be a mom and dad in this new, scary but exciting world of parenthood.
Thanks to Shelley, my assistant, for helping out on this one. I know it was tough to watch a cute newborn sleeping for a few hours, hehe.
