Anna- My “Wingman” leaves for a new life adventure

Thank you to Michelle McDaid for capturing these images of Anna and I photographing
the rings at a recent wedding- setting up these shots was only one of Anna’s specialties.

wing·man/ˈwiNGˌmən/

Noun:
  1. a pilot who supports another in a potentially dangerous flying environment. Wingman was originally a term referring to the plane flying beside and slightly behind the lead plane in an aircraft formation.
  2. The wingman’s role is to add an element of mutual support to aerial combat. The presence of a wingman makes the flight both offensively and defensively more capable by increasing firepower and situational awareness, permits the attacking of enemies, and increases the ability to employ more dynamic tactics

Well, Anna, my office and field assistant(and now good friend) of two years is heading off today to start a new adventure in her life. Their truck is packed and off to the east coast they go. Her husband, just finishing up boot camp and starting tech school, has joined the Navy. They will be stationed in Charleston, South Carolina for awhile.

I’m going to miss her. I already do. In fact, I’ve been missing her for months since she told me about her new plan.

I have so much respect for this young lady and gladly give her credit for being “my rock” out in the field. Wedding days can be crazy and fast paced and Anna’s quiet confidence, eye for detail and unmatched compassion and dependability allowed me for two years to grow in my field. You see, for me, an assistant, while performing numerous tasks including but not limited to helping me manipulate light, allowed me to stay present and creatively focused when I needed to be. She quietly watched the time, had my back, and joyfully performed any tasks that were needed in each moment in order to take the best care of our clients.

Most of the time we didn’t even need to communicate in the field- we knew each other and what was needed at any given time. We worked together towards a common goal- creating our best artistic and emotional images while making it fun and memorable for our clients. I always could count on her to work together to try to be “even better the next time”. We were a team- a great team and I gladly share with Anna credit for the body of work we have created over the last two years. I have grown as a shooter and storyteller both technically and emotionally which is in no small part due to her presence. For this I am most grateful.

I can’t wait to hear about all the beautiful ways Anna has an impact in this world as  her life continues to grow and open up.

Arms wide open! Love you Anna, and thank you.
