A few years back I had the pleasure of photographing Alec’s sister, Ally. This time around it was for Alec, the youngest of Avis and Andy. As my friends and clientele know, I’m a music lover. When Alec wanted to include his drum kit and drumming in his senior photographs, I was “jazzed”. And then, I was only a little surprised, “Wait, we’re headed down to the river with his kit?” Yes, we were with the help of his roadie parents. However, as Quincy Jones said, “There are two things you can’t live without. Water and music” and it appears to be that way for Alec! Combining drumming and the river is natural for him, two loves and it’s all about the flow.
Alec plays drums in his school’s marching band and in the local band, “Lads and Crawdads”. They are looking to hit the recording studio soon. They play punk/alternative/rock. His favorite bands (I always ask the seniors I photograph) are Foo Fighters, Artic Monkeys, Kendrick Lamar, Rush, Pink Floyd, and Hans Zimmer. Planning to head to college in 2025, Alec says it’s a toss-up between UCSB, UCLA or Oregon and he’s interested in studying engineering and business. This year right before college is memorably exciting.
When he’s not drumming he enjoys skiing, hiking, camping- hanging out with friends and family. His sound advice for incoming high schoolers is, “Always build a big cushion going into a final. Don’t discredit low-point assignments…they can make all the difference in the end.” In ten years he sees himself with a good job and lots more life experiences gained from my career, hobbies and traveling.
