Chatham Hall ~ Class of 2009

This year was my 25th year photographing the graduation at Chatham Hall in Chatham, Virginia. Ironically (not really) I also graduated from Chatham Hall 25 years ago (go Class of ’84 and golds!). Graduation from Chatham Hall is filled with traditions that stretch over several days so I arrived on Thursday afternoon with my assistant Cassie, ready to shoot. Cassie had never been to Virginia before and got to experience “humidity” for the first time(someone told her that this wasn’t really humidity). We both live at 4000 feet in the mountains- the air is pretty dry here.

This year, someone asked me if I specifically remembered my graduation and ring ceremony. Ya know, I really don’t remember mine specifically because either 1) My memory is shot(probable) or 2) 25 years of other peoples graduations kinda blend into one and create more universal memories rather than memories specific to my own graduation. I do however, remember the feeling of time passing and moving on. I remember feeling grown up, the excitement of college on the horizon and the pride of accomplishment. I remember being sad about leaving my classmates and favorite teachers. I also wondered if I I would ever be back to CH for a visit or if this was it. HAHA…I have been back just a few times! I really enjoy my visit year after year, seeing the changes, meeting the new girls and faculty. This IS the south and everyone makes you feel so welcome- truly a home away from home.
